About Global Gap Specification
Global GAP is a program to certify agricultural and food products, which transforming consumer needs into productive practices.
And called Good Agricultural practices or GAP. It’s named as Global GAP in 2007 before it was called Europe GAP.
Genesis of Global Gap
In the nineties, a group of retailers and suppliers had decided to establish a system to maintain quality, including labor, product, production, and their impact on the environment, after observing consumer awareness and interest in these standards.
Therefore, they participated in preparing the Europe GAP standard as a system for accreditation of food producers by applying standards.
Which is set by the standard in 1997 until the standard expanded to reach all countries of the world, with the completion of the development of the standard continuously.
Today, Global GAP is one of the most widely followed specifications around the world.
The Global GAP is specification based on:
- Preserving the environment.
- Quality of food production of agricultural crops.
- Paying attention to the affairs of the farmworkers and taking care of them.
- Risk management and control of pests and threats to the crop.
- Traceability of products by certification number GGN.
Today, Global GAP is one of the most widely followed specifications around the world.
